On Thursday, May 17, we hosted our annual Regional Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge celebrating the achievements of our talented students and community of teachers, volunteers and partners who make NFTE Los Angeles Metro possible. This was our culminating event celebrating the 2017-2018 school year, with thousands of students receiving NFTE's award-winning entrepreneurship curriculum across 22 area schools.

All of our Regional Challenge finalists did an amazing job, and our judges had a difficult choice to make. The first place winner, receiving $1,500 in seed capital, was Kelsey Johnson from Hamilton High School with her business Kinky Kaps, a special shower cap designed for long hair. Second place of $1,000 was awarded to PhiPhi Dinh and Teresa Xiao of Florence Nightingale Middle School with their biodegradable, edible fruit pack Fruitago. Kelsey, PhiPhi and Teresa will represent the LA Metro region at NFTE's National Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge in New York City on October 11, 2018. The third place winner of $500 was Rellie Padilla of Hawthorne Math and Science Academy, with his hydroelectricity business Current Core. Congratulations to all! Our Audience Choice Expo Winners were Karina Moreno and Melissa Mercado, also of Hawthorne Math and Science Academywith their display for Sol Power.During the judges deliberation, the audience was treated to an incredible tale of entrepreneurship, endurance and perseverance by Beate Chelette, known as The Growth Architect.
